The following industry professionals will be speaking at our events this Spring. Each one has a high level of experience in their field.

Brian Pinder-Ayres Management Consultant |

Brian is a Chartered Management Accountant with over 30 years’ experience in senior finance roles. After qualifying with Mobil Oil he worked for Polaroid (UK) before becoming a Management Consultant with chartered accountants Moores Rowland. He has advised the senior management teams in a wide variety of firms such as Solicitors, Chartered Surveyors, Management Consultants and Architects.
Brian is currently acting as Finance Director for a firm of City solicitors and for Architects Shepheard Epstein & Hunter plc and has a busy private practice. Brian was approached by the RIBA in 2008 to write a book on the financial management of architecture practices as part of their Good Practice Guide series, title ‘Painless Financial Management’. He is a regular lecturer on the Architectural Post-Graduate courses at the Universities of Cambridge, Westminster, Portsmouth and London South Bank.

Tim Attwood

Tim joined Conisbee in 1986, becoming a partner in 1990 and is now Technical Director. He is responsible for a large number of education and housing projects, both new build and refurbishment as well as the technical development of the practice and the use of innovative construction technologies.
Conisbee implemented Workspace in 2007 to their 75 staff. Workspace has consolidated their previously disparate systems into one integrated platform and the intention is to use this to help facilitate the technical development and growth of the practice.

Nick Neider

VolkerFitzpatrick are one of the largest contractors in the UK and are part of European contractor VolkerWessels.
Fitzpatrick originally implemented Workspace in 2007 to serve the companies 7 offices and 600 users. Since then the company has been bought out and Workspace has been rolled out to other companies in the VolkerWessels Group.
Spearheading the implementation at Fitzpatrick and paving the way for the rest of the group to adopt Workspace is Nick Nieder, ICT Implementation Manager.

James Ward

Howard Ward Associates are a leading firm of consulting civil and structural engineers. Their work includes all aspects design as well as investigation of defects in existing properties. They purchased Workspace in 2009 for their 10 PC users.
James joined HWA in early 2005 having previously worked as a corporate finance advisor. He spent eight years advising clients in a wide variety of industries on all aspects of corporate transactions, management buy-outs and venture capital. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and is responsible not only for controlling the finances but also for managing other key aspects of the business such as marketing, IT and business development.

Ben Goode

LSI Architects is an award winning architectural practice with around 50 staff. From offices in London and Norwich, LSI undertakes projects throughout the UK and overseas.
LSI is respected and renowned for its experience with working on multi-million pound projects for national and regional UK Government agencies, such as NHS Trusts, the Broads National Park and East of England Development Agency, and for global companies, such as Aviva.
Ben joined LSI Architects LLP as an Associate Member and Finance Manager in February 2006, leaving his post as Finance and Operations Director of a recycling and waste management company. Ben had previously spent 11 years at Adnams PLC as Financial Controller.
Areas of responsibility include Finance, Human Resources, IT, Health and Safety, Community and Company Secretarial.
Ben has been an equity Partner at LSI Architects LLP since May 2010

Amy Wilson Sales and Marketing Manager |

Amy is the Sales and Marketing Manager at Architen Landrell, where she has worked for over 8 years. Responsible for the company’s Business Development and Marketing function, Amy front’s Workspace within the organisation. Amy manages all aspects of systems training and support and works closely with the IT department to develop and enhance the Workspace system on an ongoing basis.

Peter is the Director at Optimum Consultancy responsible for Operations. Optimum provides project management and associated professional services to the public and private sectors including retail, financial, renewable energy, rail and research projects. Optimum operates from three offices in London, Haywards Heath and Cheltenham.
Peter has extensive experience of managing projects of all shapes and sizes throughout the UK and overseas.

Malcolm Clarke

Malcolm Clarke is Managing Director of Baxall Construction, a company who has established a reputation for providing their customers with cost effective quality solutions on projects throughout London and the South East.
Baxall are into their second year of their journey with Union Square, having implemented “Workspace” across the 25 user organisation. They are at the stage of ensuring continuous improvement is maintained to make the tool even more effective. The current market conditions have made it even more important that control of all vital information is maintained at the highest level. This is also backed up by the company’s quality management system and health, safety and environmental management systems, with which “Workspace” has now been fully integrated.

Tom Bostock

Tom Bostock is Managing Director of Reiach and Hall Architects, Edinburgh. He joined the practice in 1974, became a partner in 1983 and Managing Director in 1992. Projects include the Borders General Hospital 1987, St Enoch Centre Glasgow 1989, Strathclyde Graduate Business School 1992, Lorne & Islands Hospital Oban 1995 and Health Sciences for University of Strathclyde 1998. Reiach and Hall was the first architect in Scotland to acquire a CAD system in 1978, which Tom Bostock selected, managed and used on the Borders General Hospital as the first project in the UK to have integrated computerised room layouts and GA plans.
Over the last fifteen years he has developed the office and financial management back-up necessary for Reiach and Hall’s outstanding project success. In 2008 he was instrumental in installing Union Square’s document management system at Reiach and Hall, which has involved a comprehensive review of all procedures.

David Ward

David Ward is a Director of Triangle Architects Ltd and has worked on both socially and privately funded projects for over thirty years, including PPP / PFI developments. David has considerable experience of working with health authorities and trusts; local authorities and housing associations; regeneration agencies; developers; community groups; residents and tenants; and a range of non-professional clients, spanning a period of 25 years. These have included new build and refurbishment schemes.
Within the practice, David has special responsibility for time management and finance issues. He is also active in systems, procedures and ICT within the practice and undertakes the Project Director role on key and strategic projects.

Claire Ball

For the last four years Claire has been at the forefront of IT at the world renowned, Grimshaw Architects. Grimshaw has an international presence, with offices in London, New York, Melbourne and Sydney. Their work includes architecture, planning and industrial design.
A major part of Claire’s role is the implementation and management of the Workspace Enterprise Management System, introduced to the practice to promote collaborative working amongst staff. Claire manages the system itself, as well as training users, running refresher sessions and overseeing the roll out of the system across other offices. Claire has a compelling list of benefits that this collaborative approach to IT has brought to the business.

Doug Hann

Doug Hann is a Main Board Director of Indigo Planning, responsible for the joint running of the Manchester office. Indigo is one of the largest independent planning consultancies in the country with offices in London, central London, Leeds and Manchester. Doug has over 15 years experience and leads teams advising a range of clients across the country including developers, house builders, retailers, land owners, banks and pension funds. Indigo’s projects range from mixed use regeneration schemes and new shopping centres, to change of use and development affecting listed buildings.
Doug has Board responsibility for IT, and therefore has been instrumental in procuring and leading the implementation of Workspace within Indigo’s office environment. This has led to its roll out across all four offices within the UK and across all business sectors from Finance through to Project Management and document management.
